Annette Merlino DMD - Missions Trips |
Dr. Annette Merlino travels around the world, sharing her dental skills with the needy. She always wanted to be a missionary, to share God’s love with others and she became a dentist so she could do this. Dr. Merlino takes about 3 mission trips each year, for 1 -2 weeks each.
She works through various Christian mission groups and most times serves along side established missionaries, supporting their work and witness.

BACK TO BELIZE!
Annette Merlino Felmley returned to Belize for her 10th mission trip there. She worked in a donated “trailer” in front of the Cristo Rey elementary school, where she and Sheena, a new dental grad from Pitt, did dentistry for all the students and teachers.
Annette also taught the students about the health of their teeth and their souls. She included teaching the shark song!
Many times she will take dental students with her so they can see how God can use them and their skills to benefit people everywhere. The dental team usually works a few days in the small medical clinic in one town. They also spend a few days traveling to the other towns, where they may only able to do extractions and cleanings. In general, if electricity is available, then the team is able to do restorative work, including amalgam (silver) and composite (white) fillings. They always try to educate the people on good nutrition and good dental habits.
At times, her own office patients have joined her, doing a variety of things from building a schoolhouse to teaching vacation bible school to dental assisting (on the job training!).
